A Prayer for Massage Therapists

On my recent vacation in India, I spent a few days volunteering at Mother Theresa’s mission in Calcutta.  A certain framed prayer hanging on the wall caught my eye.  It is a wonderful way to clear your head and focus on bringing healing to the treatment room.  It is a Christian prayer, but I am reprinting below the most universal parts so that people of all faiths can enjoy it:

I pray give skill to my hands,
Clear vision to my mind,
Kindness and meekness to my heart.
Give me singleness of purpose,
Strength to lift up a part of the burden of my suffering fellow men,
and a true realization of the privelage that is mine.
Take from my heart all guile and worldliness,
that with the simple faith of a child,
I may rely on you

Amen

If a crown jewel caught your eye with the beauty of its true essence, then why would you offer a counterfeit to others?

It was the beautiful essence of this prayer that touched your spirit in its entirety. Just a thought…..

It is a beautiful catholic prayer, but many of my clients are of different faiths, religions and spiritual orientations. Out of respect for them and other therapists that might find inspiration in this prayer, I wrote out the most universal essence of the prayer. These words can be used as prayer, mantra or meditation by people of any faith. I included the original picture to show the complete prayer as well as show its simplicity. But your point is valid. Here is the unadulterated prayer:

      Dear Lord,
      The great healer,
      I kneel before you,
Since every perfect gift must come from you,
I pray give skill to my hands,
      Clear vision to my mind,
Kindness and meekness to my heart.
      Give me singleness of purpose,
Strength to lift up a part of the burden of my suffering fellow men,
and a true realization of the privelage that is mine.
Take from my heart all guile and worldliness,
that with the simple faith of a child,
      I may rely on you

      Amen
